Touch the Manhattan Sky
2010
3/3
silicone, 8"X8"

When I was living in Bushwick, Brooklyn, I could see the famous Manhattan sklyline from my apartment window on the 3rd floor. The area was dangerous and the neighborhood dirty. I was exhusted because I had to sleep without a bed in my small room, which was filled with so many boxes with the things from my studio. When I looked through my window, Manhattan was close but it felt far away. The luxurious apartments with views towards Union Square or Central Park indicated a higher society that contrasted my hard times. One day, the sky was dark and low. The gray clouds against the dark sky made for an imposing scenery. The sky felt so low I felt it was tangible. I decided to reproduce the sky and remember it.
